I’m a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist (the first African American to win the award), creator of the comic strip “Candorville,” and an occasional New Yorker contributor. I've drawn storyboards for Anthony Zuiker (of "C.S.I.") and for commercials. I'm also the author of two forthcoming graphic novels for Holt Publishing: "The Talk," and "Come Back Around to You."
My work explores the nature of power: power vs. powerlessness, and the endless rationalizations of the abuse of power.
The Pulitzers recognized my work in 2019. Before that, I received the National Press Foundation's Berryman Award (2016) and the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for Editorial Cartooning (2015). I live in California and have three small children, all of whom are phenomenal artists.
My editorial cartoons are distributed by King Features Syndicate, and "Candorville" is distributed by the Washington Post Writers Group.
